Oyo NDLEA intercepts 532kg of cannabis sativa

The Oyo State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted 532 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis sativa, popular called skunk inside the bush at Ayete town in Oyo State. Skunk is a type of powerful and strong-smelling marijuana.
Speaking with Crime Reports on the seizure, the state commander, Mrs Omolade Faboyede revealed that her command received an intelligence report on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 that some people were moving sacks of the illicit drug through the bush path within Ayete zone into the town.
This, according to Mrs Faboyede, prompted NDLEA officers from Igbo-Ora Area Command of the anti-drug agency to move on surveillance to the bush which was accessed by motorcycles because of its unmotorable state.
The commander stated further that the officer remained in the bush until they sighted a Nissan Sunny car with registration number KTU 158 AH loaded with sacks suspected to contain the illicit drug at about 12.30a.m.
“Immediately the driver of the car saw NDLEA officers, he jumped out of the car and ran into the bush under the cover of darkness. Though our officers went in his pursuit, they could not get him because of the terrain and the fact that it was in the dead of the night,” she added.
On searching the vehicle, it was discovered that it was loaded with 24 sacks of skunk. Crime Reports learnt that 20 of the sacks had 25 packs of compressed skunk in bread loaf size while the remaining four sacks contained uncompressed cannabis sativa.
The drug was suspected to have been brought in from one of the neighbouring countries sharing borders with Nigeria. The smuggling into the country was said to have been made possible by the porous Nigerian borders.
The vehicle conveying the illicit drug was said to have been remodelled in a way that would give room for many sacks to be loaded into it.
Mrs Faboyede assured that efforts were being made to trace the driver of the vehicle with a view to getting him arrested.

Science Things-Human skull suppliers arrested in Sagamu

Two herbalists, Mustapha Murtala and Sunday Oluyeba have been apprehended by the police for alleged involvement in the sales and supply of human skulls in Sagamu.
Arrested along side the duo is Mrs Adenike Olarewaju, a 34 year old mother of two whose husband was alleged to be a supplier of the human parts.
Report says two human skulls suspected to have been procured from a graveyard were recovered from the suspects.
According to Police sources, their arrest came sequel to an intelligence report received by the Lagos State Police Command on activities of human parts dealers, which prompted the Commander of SARS, Abba Kyari, to order for a manhunt that resulted in the arrest of the three suspects, with others still at large in Ojumerin area of Sagamu, Ogun State.
In the course of interrogation, 42-year-old Murtala said he got involved in the business two years ago following an offer of N30,000 for a human skull.
According to the father of one, “I am a herbalist from Sagamu, Ogun State. I was introduced to human parts business by one Sunday Oluyeba I knew through my friends, Olanipekun and Kazim, three years ago.
“My friends asked me to get native birds called eyeoshi and eyeoke, and I succeeded in getting them. They later came and requested a human head with an offer of N30,000. They said they wanted to use it to prepare concoction for a pregnant woman in labour.

“They told me they also use human parts to prepare concoction for women who have difficulty in getting pregnant. What they do is to grind the human skull, mix it with water and give to the woman to drink. Such concoction cleanses the stomach, after which she would become pregnant.
“Sunday brought the human head and I paid him N15,000 for it. This is the second time I am buying a human skull from him. I do not know where he got them from.
“I was going about my herbal business when a man came and demanded human skull. As I handed the nylon where I kept it to him, some men I later discovered to be policemen swooped on me. I have never killed anyone in my life.”
Subsequently, he was made to put a call across to his colleague in crime, Oluyeba, demanding a human head. Oluleba could not attend to the supply, however, he instructed one of his herbalist friends,Baba Beji, to go for the supply. He was arrested when he got there.
His statement led the police to another suspect in Sagamu. The suspect, Juwon Olarewaju, another herbalist, purportedly fled on sighting the policemen but his wife was arrested instead.
Mrs Olarewaju, in her statement to operatives, expressed shock over the sales of human parts by her husband.
“I have been married to Juwon for five years and we have two children. My husband is a herbalist but I didn’t know he was dealing in human parts. I was arrested in my house at about 2am over the weekend. I swear, I didn’t know anything about all these. I was arrested because my husband whom they came to arrest ran away. These people implicated my husband in the matter; they said my husband supplied them with a human head.” She said
