Son kills father, buries him in shallow grave in Enugu

A young man said to be a member of a kidnap gang operating in Enugu State, Mr. Chukwuekezie Ofonago has shot his father dead.

The suspect now in police net admitted to have shot his father, Mr. George Ofonago with a double-barrel gun at a hideout where he was kept while demanding an undisclosed sum as ransom from his family.

The incident occurred at Abor village  Enugu Inyi Community, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal and Investigations Department (SCID) of the state police command have already commenced full scale investigations into the incident.

He said that the deceased had suddenly disappeared from his home prompting his family members to raise an alarm.

The son was fingered to have been involved in his father’s disappearance in the course of the search.

“Following the sudden disappearance of the deceased, information got to the security operatives about the involvement of the son whom his family suspected reasonably to have played a suspicious role,” he said.

While the kidnappers continued to demand for ransom from their hideout, the son of the deceased was tracked down by the police.

He gave an insight on how he abducted the father and took him to where he allegedly shot him dead with a single barrel gun and buried him in a shallow grave.

Chukwuekezie confessed that it was not his wish to  shoot the father but that he was under pressure from the father who had instructed him to shoot him to death.

In another development, one Uchenna Francis Nwozor who specialized in threatening members of the public with kidnap and demanding ransom within Oji River and its environs, has been arrested.

The suspect believed to have participated in kidnapping some persons in the past, according to the police spokesman, is now helping the operatives of the Anti Kidnap Unit in their investigations.

He had allegedly threatened to kidnap someone on phone if he fails to pay the sum of N5 million but he was later arrested by the police in Awka before he could execute his plan.

Boko Haram convoy causes panic in Borno

A convoy of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and motorcycles with armed men suspected to be Boko Haram has caused panic in a town located in the central part of Borno, a security source said.
A gang of wild-looking men in some vehicles painted in military colour and motorcycles chanting Allah Akbar ! (Allah is great) was reportedly sighted by residents of Dikwa, headquarters of Dikwa Local Government Area on Thursday, forcing many residents to flee into the bush.
“Reports indicated that there was commotion everywhere as people fled into the bush until the men stopped and told some people they didn’t come for them but for security troops,” a police source that is not authorised to speak said.
Speculation was rife in the state that the Emir of Dikwa, Alhaji Muhammad Masta El- Kanemi may have also fled the town amidst the confusion and panic of possible attack by the terrorists. A source however claimed he was sighted in Maiduguri, the state capital yesterday, adding that he may have arrived the capital same yesterday and didn’t flee his domain as rumoured.
Residents said the insurgents headed to Marte, north of Borno, once a Boko Haram stronghold, where they unleash violence on villagers in the area but this cannot be verified as at press time due to destruction and breakdown of telecommunication facilities in the area. The serene Dikwa town is about 80 kilomeetres from Maiduguri and is located along Gumboru/Ngala road, which has been taken over by the insurgents since August 24. Marte is on the Nigerian border around the Lake Chad.

Madonna slams Lady Gaga in leaked song

Pop star Madonna has reportedly called Lady Gaga a “copycat” in the lyrics of her leaked track “Two Steps Behind Me”.
The 56-year-old wrote the song about the “Pokerface” hitmaker in which she describes her as a “copycat” and compares her to a “messed-up sister”, reports mirror.co.uk.
Madonna sings: “You’re a copycat, Where is my royalty? You’re a pretty girl, I’ll give you that. But stealing my recipe, it’s an ugly look.
“Did you study me hard enough? You’re never gonna be, you’re just a wannabe me. Like a sister all messed-up, who’s gonna help you out? In your fantasy, you can try it all. But you can’t be me. You can walk the walk, even talk the talk. But you’ll always be two steps behind me.”
A source working closely with the Gaga on her upcoming 13th album thinks the 28-year-old, who counts Madonna amongst her idols, will be “mortified” when she catches wind of the damning lyrics, although it is yet to be confirmed whether the song has made the cut.
“They’re very harsh lyrics but Madonna really wants to express herself again. Gaga’s going to be mortified,” said the source. ”I’m hearing Madonna may well drop the first of the tracks as soon as November, much earlier than expected. I can’t wait,” the source added.

Chris Oyakhilome’s marriage crashes-No be me talk am o!

After months and years of speculations about the state of the marriage between Christ Embassy Church founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and his wife, Rev. Anita Odegwa Oyakhilome, the latter has finally filed a suit in a London court seeking the dissolution of the union.
In what looks like a messy divorce suit, the wife in the papers already filed in court is asking for separation on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery”. According to a news agency, The Cable, the divorce case, with Suit No FD14D01650, was filed on April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK, on Anita’s behalf by Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, a full-service law firm with expertise in commercial law and a strong consumer focus in family, wills and estate among others.
Frantic efforts made by Saturday Sun to get a reaction from Oyakhilome’s church headquarters located along Kudirat Abiola way, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, were rebuffed by officials of the church. However, one of the pastor’s top aides, who manages some of the church’s business concerns, denied there was any divorce suit in any court.
According to him, “they got married in Nigeria, how will they file a divorce suit in London? It is not true and it’s not possible. If anything is filed, it is either in Nigeria here or nowhere else because both are Nigerians. Even though, the wife may have dual citizenship, her father is a Nigerian and they both carry Nigerian passports.” He referred Saturday Sun to the church’s headquarters for further and official comments.
Notwithstanding the church’s denial, Saturday Sun contacted the law firm of Attwaters Jameson Hill handling the divorce suit. Enquiries from the firm revealed that Ms Joyti Henchie who heads the family law team is handling the case. A reply to an initial mail sent to her official e-mail address yesterday said the lawyer won’t be on her desk till Monday, September 1. She, however, referred Saturday Sun to her colleague on duty, Ms Kaylee Pleasance, who after requesting for the suit number and names of the litigants, confirmed that the law firm is handling the divorce suit. When asked the next hearing date of the suit, she said she could not immediately recall but promised to communicate that next week.
Oyakhilome’s church is regarded as one of the biggest denominations in Nigeria with membership in thousands and branches all over world. While Pastor Chris is the president of Believers’ Love World Inc, the registered name of the church, his wife, Anita is the vice president. They have two teenage daughters, Sharon and Charlyn. There have been speculations about the unhealthy state of their marriage in recent years with the continued absence of Anita from the church in Nigeria.
According to The Cable, “while Anita believes she has been relegated to the background in the scheme of things in the church, her husband has reportedly accused her of trying to usurp power and authority above her seniors in the ministry.”
Though the pastor is reported to have been making efforts to avoid divorce believing that the wife would eventually have a change of mind, the divorce document (decree nissi) was reportedly served on him in his hotel room during a recent visit to the UK. Decree nissi, in legal terms, is like a yellow card in a football match which is a precursor to a red card (decree absolute) if no new evidence is provided to stall proceedings. The latter, which will effectively end the marriage, is expected to be issued in the course of subsequent hearings during which terms of the divorce will be worked out by the lawyers on both sides.
When Saturday Sun visited Christ Embassy headquarters, in Lagos yesterday, the receptionist refused to grant our correspondent access into the church office, insisting that they do not have a department whose job is to attend to the press. In her words: “We do not have a department that can attend to you. Besides, you are talking about the owner of the church, no pastor dares to speak about this matter. If you need response, try and contact Pastor Chris. All I know is that it (divorce) is all rumour until he says otherwise.”
Meanwhile, members of the church were seen in groups, discussing the issue which had gone viral on social media. A lady, who was addressed as Bekky, said: “I guess it’s still a rumour and we have been told to disregard it. I pray they sort it out and save the church the embarrassment. Pastor Chris is a holy man and has a peaceful home. It’s only those who are jealous of his progress that are cooking up the divorce story.”
Another member, a security man at the church, who had ushered the correspondent to the reception, said: “I told you that no one will listen to you. Everybody should mind his business, that he is a pastor does not mean that there are no challenges. They are the ones suffering most because the devil is always doing its best to destroy ministries. Pastor Chris will surely overcome it.”
Yet another member, who later joined Saturday Sun correspondent out of the church, said: “Even if it is true, he is only human and has emotional needs. I have been wondering how he copes staying away from his family, especially his wife. I know that is a good reason for this to happen at the peak of his career. I know that God will see him through this trying time”.

Youths attack policemen in Bauchi for rescuing suspected ritualist

Three policemen escaped death by the whiskers on Tuesday, in Unguwar Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi metropolis as angry youths attacked them with sticks and stones for rescuing a suspected ritualist, who they believed charmed a 15-year-old girl.
It was gathered that the suspected ritualist came to the area around 11: 30 am, where he allegedly touched the victim, who was passing by, thereby causing her to collapse instantly.
Malam Bashiru, one of the eye witnesses said when the suspect realised that the girl was unconscious, he attempted to flee but was caught by some youths, who asked him to bring the girl back to normal or else they would kill him.
Bashiru further explained that when the man rebuffed their demand, more youths trooped to the scene with sticks and other weapons with which they started beating him before the community elders intervened.
“When the elders came, they took him to the house of one of them for interrogation where he owned up to charming the girl and performed certain rituals that revived the girl.
“Instead of the elders handing him back to us, they called the police, who came and took him away in their van”, he said.
Malam Adamu Alin Bayi, the ward head of the area confirmed the incident.
He said they intervened to stop the raging youths from taking law into their hands.

Dora’s corpse arrive Anambra, indigenes defy Ebola scare to pay last respect

It was harvest of tribute on Wednesday as the remains of the former minister of Information and Communication, Prof Dora Akunyili arrived the Anambra State capital, Awka.
Indigenes of the state, who gathered at the Women’s Development Centre, Awka to pay tribute to the Amazon described her in various glowing superlatives, each recalling their experience with her.
The Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano told the audience that he had concluded arrangement to name Prof Dora Akunyili as the State’s Ambassador Plenipotentiary before her death.
This idea, he said, was conceived because of the good representation the state had received from her, with the hope that she would use the position to boost the state positively.
Obiano said that the death of Akunyili was a loss to the entire Anambra people and Nigerians at large, and that her absence would be felt for a long while.
Former Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon said Akunyili, despite her busy schedule, was a good wife to her husband, and called on the family to have courage as their mother, Akunyili lived a good life and also impacted in the entire country.
It was, however, a time of emotion as the husband of the late Akunyili, Dr Chikle Akunyili mounted the podium to recount some memorable times he had with his late wife.
Chike recounted how his wife had so much faith in Nigeria to the point of insisting on being in the National Conference, despite her failing health, and how she had during her days as the Minister of Information and Communication flung a green card at US Embassy officials, deciding to keep her Nigerian Diplomatic passport.
“I remember when she was running for the senate, in our community, she had over 10,000 votes, and some ballot papers were remaining, and when APGA people came to her and said they wanted to thumbprint on the left over papers, she effused and said ‘what will I tell my God’.
“She was forthright to the point of death, and for those who think that she is a hater of the Igbos, I can only say sorry to them. She is one person who believes in doing things right, to the point that she even sacked my immediate younger brother from NAFDAC during her days”.
Dora’s remains will on Thursday be interred in her husband’s hometown in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government of Anambra State.
Dailypost reports that as the corpse arrived the Women Development Centre Venue, fans of the former NAFDAC DG defied an instruction that all guests must be tested of the Ebola Virus before gaining access to the hall.
They all surged forward into the hall.

How Taylor Swift earned more than Beyonce

Taylor Swift may not be as cool as Beyonce, as funky as Justin Timberlake, or as much of a music legend as the Rolling Stones, but according to Billboard she out-earned them all last year - by a significant margin.
Her $40 million haul (excluding the huge chunk of cash she makes from merchandising, branding and sponsorship), put her more than $8 million ahead of Timberlake, $14 million ahead of the Stones, and an impressive $16 million ahead of Beyonce. And she did this by breaking the most important rule in pop music - by being decidedly uncool.

Swift was presented with shocking evidence of how she measured up to Beyonce in the swag stakes when Kanye West felt compelled to jump on stage at the VMAs five years ago and declare that her winning video wasn't a patch on the far cooler video for Beyonce's 'All The Single Ladies'. The incident brought her the pity of music fans around the world, but you can't build a fortune on pity.
Crossover
Instead, she built her appeal on country. Country fans actively welcome a pop star who is willing to play a banjo on stage, and are fanatically willing to put their money where their mouth is. In the same year Swift only actually made it to number two in the Forbes list of country music's highest earners - behind Toby Keith - and yet beat the pop world hands down.

She also crossed over into pop. It's a diverse world, where stars such as Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus can build a reputation on being outrageous, and yet there's plenty of room for clean cut stars like One Direction, the Jonas Brothers and Sting.

Sales figures
The combination has meant overwhelming album sales figures. The album sales figures used by Billboard were calculated on Swift's last album - released in 2012 - which still had her eighth in terms of album sales when the Billboard boffins were compiling the list. She was also sixth in terms of downloads and fifth in streaming royalties. Her fifth album is released this year and has already broken Billboard album sales records.

However, where she has really coined it on is on tour. In ticket sales alone touring the US for six months in 2013 pulled in an astonishing $30 million. This puts her head and shoulders above the others on the list. When you add in the fact the tour was also sponsored by Keds, Elizabeth Arden and Diet Coke (which isn't included in the calculations) plus merchandise sales of an estimated $17 per head, she is thought to have made closer to $64 million on the tour.

Bigger picture
These figures don't give us the whole picture. Beyonce's Mrs Carter tour was running simultaneously, and was said to have made more than $100 million when all the sponsorship, endorsement and merchandise was factored into the figures. It's one of the reasons why Forbes puts Beyonce in first position in its Celebrity 100 - based on fame and wealth - while Swift only makes it to number 18.

It seems as though being resolutely uncool will do nothing to stop you coining in millions for selling your music. So you can sit happily at number 18 in the Celebrity 100 and count your fortune.

Pastor steps on members in the name of deliverance

There is a new viral picture of Pastor Lesego Daniel of the Rabboni Centre Ministries, South Africa where he was seen stepping on his obedient members during a deliverance service held recently.

The South African Pastor appears unperturbed over social media comments as he went further to express his determination to subject his congregants to more of such acts, just like he has displayed in this latest photo tagged, ‘’foot stepping’’deliverance.

2014 MTV VMAs:Worst Dressed Stars On The Red Carpet

In typical MTV Video Music Awards’ fashion, some of music’s biggest stars brought out their craziest looks for the show’s red carpet Sunday night, while others dressed to impress. Here are the top 10 best- and worst-dressed stars of the 2014 MTV VMAs:

WORST

Taylor Swift

A usually modest Taylor Swift opted to sport a Mary Katrantzouz romper that covered her arms and not much else, as Hollywood Life noted.

 Amber Rose

Amber Rose left little to the imagination sporting a Rose McGowan-inspired frock. Her date, husband and rapper Wiz Khalifa, sported a polo advertising suicide-prevention awarness. At least his outfit was for a good cause.

 Ed Sheeran

Emil Nava, left, and Ed Sheeran arrive at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.
Ed Sheeran may be one of Hollywood’s heartthrobs, but his wrinkled, polka-dot, button-down shirt isn’t winning him any new fans.

 Kim Kardashian

 (L. to r.) Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner arrive at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

Kim Kardashian didn’t pull a Beyoncé and bring her daughter North and husband Kanye West to the VMAs, but she did show off two of her other best assets in a slinky, red, white and black number.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora killed her “Black Widow” performance, but her red-carpet look wasn’t as spellbinding. Leaving very little to the imagination, Ora’s red Donna Karan Atelier gown looks to be at least one size too big, although Hollywood Life seemed to appreciate it.

 Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles must have kissed and made up with Jay Z because it appears the singer borrowed some items from the rapper’s closet.

 BONUS: Teetering On Disaster-Jennifer Lopez

Fans are either loving or hating J.Lo’s risque Charbel Zoe dress. No matter your opinion, it’s hard to hate on Lopez’s fabulous figure at 45 years of age

Why many pastors will go to hell – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Founder and head pastor of Believers Love World, popularly known as Christ Embassy, Chris Oyakhilome left members of his church shocked with his revelation while preaching the message on Sunday.
According to City People, while delivering the message titled ‘The lessons of Lot’, Pastor Chris explained to his members why most pastors will not make heaven.

“Many pastors will go to hell for not obeying God, some are not called by God, some just called themselves for their personal reasons, some are in the ministry to serve their senses”, he stated.
The popular pastor said some churches started out of strife and that some pastors left their churches where they were to go and started another ministry because of anger, strife, misunderstanding or envy.
He said, “Sometimes, it is between a pastor’s wife and an assistant pastor’s wife; you need to learn to obey God in all, I don’t want any of you in such situation. Make up your mind to obey God in everything”.

You didn’t say what was wrong with you that you had to be hospitalized?
But you already know. We thank the Lord. The most important thing is that I am alive and better. I appreciate life more. But this one you are asking, e no reach make I sick? After my husband left after our wedding, was it not enough reason for me to be sick? Ah! The Lord is our strength.
Why are you making fun of this?
Ah! I am telling you the truth o. The truth is that we all have challenges in our lives. I have always believed that the challenge is not the issue but how you get up and get over it. I was very down last year. It was my low moment. But with the help of God and the support of my family and friends, I am here now. I am happy.
Are you no longer depressed?
I was never depressed. I reacted like every normal human being would react if she embarks on a lifetime journey and it doesn’t go as she planned it. But God has a reason for everything.
Are there times you wish you weren’t a celebrity especially when you are linked with controversies?
The only time I felt bad about my fame was when my marriage ended. I felt if I weren’t this popular; people wouldn’t have talked about it. So many marriages crash on a daily basis but you will not hear about them. Some people have been married five times but you will not hear their gist because they are not in the eye of the public. People didn’t know that the marriage had broken up until December when I felt I was strong enough to handle the publicity that it generated.
Were you shocked with the kind of publicity it generated?
I was shocked! People called me from all parts of the world including China. Some people cried while some people felt happy. Some guys said they were happy my marriage ended. Some said they were not happy that I even married the guy. Some said I looked older than him. Some said my marriage shouldn’t have ended just like that. People talked and talked. But the only time you know your marriage is successful is when you live with your partner and God calls one of you home. Marriage of 30 years can still break up. It is a bad thing for a marriage to breakup. So you can imagine the unhappiness the parties involved would be going through. Nobody is happy when his/her marriage ends. Some people see me outside and ask, ‘your marriage has ended, how do you feel?’ I will answer them that I am jumping up or how else do they expect me to feel? Nonsense! A comedian once said that ‘complete’ and ‘finish’ appear to have the same meaning but they are not the same. If you marry the right person, you are complete but if you marry the wrong person, you are finished.
Were you in love with him in the first place?
I got married to somebody who I was in love with. At that time, he also said he loved me. Unfortunately, the marriage ended too soon.
Why?
It was due to irreconcilable differences. It is not a thing of joy. I don’t think we should celebrate sadness and bad news. We should be more sensitive. No marriage should end but peradventure it does, don’t make a mockery of that person. You are not even mocking the person, you are mocking God.
Are you giving it another shot?
No! Me ke? Let us struggle first and make some money. In any case, I think I should marry a Chinese or an Indian. If many people agree that I should marry a Chinese, then I will go ahead. But a Japanese might be better. Japanese products are strong and reliable.
Is your ex-husband still your friend?
I don’t think you should call him my ‘ex-husband’ because we were together for less than one month. An ex- husband is somebody you marry and after three years or more, you separate. Anyway, I don’t know where he is. We have moved on.
Are you happy?
I am happier now and I am better. I was happy before, the only thing that got me sad was that the marriage ended. I did one wedding and it didn’t go well and I am alive. I should thank God. A lot of people lose their spouses just after a week of marriage. As long as you are alive, have hope. If God says I should marry again, I will follow His will. I have made my own attempt, let God make His own. I am sure he (ex-husband) is okay anywhere he is anyway.
Wasn’t the break-up your fault?
No. it wasn’t my fault. I can’t really say it was his fault too. It was just irreconcilable differences. We met and we were in love and we quickly got married. Maybe we got married too quickly but I have seen people who got married a month after they met and the marriage lasted. Our own didn’t work out. There is no need to apportion blame.
Do you still believe in love?
I have always believed in fairy tales and a knight in shining armour but my marriage didn’t go that way unfortunately.
There is usually a stigma associated with women who are divorced, doesn’t that bother you?
Stigma ke? That was before. Men can afford to have 20 children from different women. If your wife is abusing you and you cannot take it, my brother, please take a walk. If your husband is abusing you, take a walk. If it is like my own case that both of you cannot agree, you also need to take a walk before somebody wounds the other person. Death is final. So it is better to take off before it degenerates into death. I know somebody that separated from his wife and years later, he came back and begged her and they are back together. He, who fights and runs away lives to fight another day. Don’t die there.
So what if your husband comes back?
No o. But like I said; he, who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.

NMA calls off strike, directs Doctors to resume on Monday

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has suspended its over two-month old strike.
Its President,  Kayode Obembe, who disclosed the development to newsmen, said the association’s delegates resolved to suspend the industrial action in the interest of the ongoing public health issues in the country.
Mr. Obembe said the delegates also resolved among others that the Federal Government recall all suspended resident doctors without punitive measures.
He therefore directed all Nigerian doctors to report to work on Monday.
The Doctors had been sharply divided over whether or not to suspend the strike in the face of outbreak of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

Chibok Girls-Don't Give Up On Them.

Nigerians can actually fight for what is right.
Never have we lacked the will to do so, what we lack is continuity, the spirit that pushes us to continue that which we have started.
I remember vividly, how most of us left our homes during the removal of fuel subsidy to protest with one voice.
Soon it transformed into an avenue for celebrities to re-register themselves into the minds of the people, and yes the media was there to help.
Only that this time, they didn't have to pay, they were advertised for free.
And right before our very eyes, our protest transformed into a carnival, by the time the party was over, we were left with increased fuel price and there was absolutely nothing we could do about it.
But do we ever learn?
Over four month ago, some group of girls were kidnapped from chibok by terrorists, who parade themselves as Boko Haram and been who we are, we saw an opportunity to battle again. We came out in one voice and sang,’’ BRING BACK OUR GIRLS’’, till everyone was willing to listen.
Again some celebrities saw another opportunity to re-ignite their flames, while some politicians saw an avenue to point accusing fingers. Using the medium,’’ BRING BACK OUR GIRLS’’ to actually bring back themselves come the next election.

Where are they today?
How come we have suddenly become quiet?
Where are our celebrities?
Why can't we at least see this one to the finish?

#BRING BACK OUR GIRLS

If we give up on them, they'll have no choice but to definitely give up on themselves.
