Nigeria has confirmed 12 cases of Ebola virus

Nigeria has confirmed twelve cases of Ebola virus, of which five infected patients have almost fully recovered.

Health Ministry statement confirmed that 189 people in Lagos and six others in the south-eastern city of Enugu were under surveillance.

The Ebola virus has killed more than 1 000 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since the outbreak began in March, and four people died in Nigeria.

Fighting the disease in Nigeria seems to be complicated by the fact that doctors are on nationwide strike.

The ministry of health in Nigeria fired at least 16 000 doctors after they refused to end their strike in the focus of Ebola epidemic.

The death toll from Ebola is still climbing and the United Nations health agency faces questions whether it should have declared the outbreak as public health emergency of international concern.
