Oliver Chibuzor, a catering loader at Arik Air, who has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had revealed how members of staff of the airline smuggle illicit drugs by concealing cocaine in catering supplies to avoid being detected by airport security.
On Monday, Chika Udensi, a senior member of the Arik Air cabin crew, was arrested with 20kg of cocaine at Heathrow Airport in London.
Mr. Udensi, allegedly concealed the cocaine which is worth over a hundred million naira, within the,"construction of laptop bags", according to the NDLEA.
Mr. Chibuzor told narcotic investigators that he was introduced into the illicit drug business by Mr. Udensi.
He further revealed that whenever Chika gives him drugs, he concealed them in catering supplies which are later collected by Chika inside the flight.
NDLEA's chairman Ahmadu Giade, had directed that henceforth, all airport workers must be extensively searched including all catering trucks, luggage trucks, aviation fuel tankers, machines and personnel whose duties relates directly or indirectly to flight operations.
