Letting go of what you are already used to is more difficult than accepting that which you are not.
Holding on to something can be more harmful than simply letting go.
Yes, The human mind sometimes pushes us to try certain things, mostly to satisfy our complex curiosities but when it becomes too much and you are finding it extremely difficult to quit, then it becomes an addiction.
It could be continuous over dependence in alcohol, smoking, masturbation, drug abuse, etc.

For someone who is not addicted to anything, this might sound very easy but if you actually have an addiction, or you are close to someone who does, you must have noticed how difficult it is for you or that person to accept the fact that there is actually an addiction.
Re-evaluating yourself and totally accepting that there is actually an addiction, is the first step towards achieving success when it comes to quitting addictions.

2 - Draw Closer To God

This might sound controversial, especially to those who do not believe in God. But be rest assured that if you call upon the name of the lord, he will surely answer you and whenever you feel like giving up, the lord shall renew your strength.

3 - Stay Away From People Who Have Similar Addiction

This is very important, if you are bent or quitting an addiction. You have to continuously avoid gatherings and people that would tempt you into discontinuing your vow.

Develop and try to recreate the positive aspects of your life, like thinking about what you love doing. For example, song writing, poetry, sports, etc and dedicate a vital amount of your time and attention to it.
