The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence
Corps, NSCDC, Ade Abolurin escaped an assassination attempt on his life
on Friday evening in Lagos.
It was gathered that the NSDC boss was
on an inspection tour to some confiscated and disposable items in
company of some committees from the Nigeria Army (NA), Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices
Commission (ICPC), when men of the Nigeria Police Force tried to open
fire at the Commandant and the inspection team.
According to the
Corps Public Relations Officer, PRO, Emmanuel Okeh, the assassination
attempt followed the immediate arrest of some suspected vandals and oil
theft caught in possession of adulterated petroleum products in several
jerry cans with two boats used for the operation.
“Immediately our Commandant General and other Inspection team ordered
the arrest of the suspect, a distress call was put across to the Leader
of the Police team whose identity could not be ascertained and arrived
to challenged the inspection’s presence in the area.
“Upon his
arrival, he said our Commandant General had no business in the area as
it was under the Police jurisdiction and surveillance”.
According to him, the Police might have been harboring the criminals and arrived the scene set them free.
“I
think the intention of the Police was to probably shoot the Commandant
who coordinated the arrest of the suspects and as well prevent the
federal government team from confiscating the recovered items as
exhibits during prosecution”, he said.
